Youth MHFA
Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed for adults who interact with young people. This includes but is not limited to teachers, school staff, coaches, camp counselors, youth group leaders, and parents. Course participants should be at least 18 years of age.
This specially designed course helps participants understand the unique circumstances that surround physical, social, emotional, and mental development, which should be acknowledged as we notice potential mental health and substance use challenges in young people. Additionally, the curriculum emphasizes the first aider’s role in the process as an “observer,” “supporter,” and “bridge” — not as one who diagnoses or provides treatment.
Youth Mental Health First Aiders will learn how to properly connect with youth when approaching these conversations, recognize signs and symptoms of a potential mental health challenge, know specific mental health facts related to young people, follow an action plan for both crisis and non-crisis situations, and more.
